Metadata checked and verified

An independent national (control) body carries out an annual assessment of compliance with the delegated regulations MMTIS, RTTI, SRTI and SSTP,  on the basis of a random sample of the datasets which are registered with the NAP. During this assessment, this body checks, among other things, whether the metadata entered are correct and complete and whether the data owner has submitted a complete and correct Declaration of Compliance.

When the national (control) body grants a positive assessment for these two elements to an organisation’s dataset, this dataset receives the “metadata checked and verified” label. By awarding this label, we aim both to validate the efforts made by the data owner to register himself correctly with the NAP and to help re-users of the data by informing them that the metadata for this dataset are reliable. To be clear: metadata are data giving information about a dataset and not the data themselves.

Please note that the national (control) body carries out the analysis on the basis of a random sample. Not having the label “metadata checked and verified” does not mean that the metadata of the dataset is not compliant! It is not possible for data owners to apply for the label themselves

If, as a re-user, you find that a dataset bearing the “metadata checked and verified” label nevertheless contains incorrect or incomplete (meta)data, be sure to inform the NAP Helpdesk. We will then ask the organisation concerned to make the necessary corrections. If necessary, the “metadata checked and verified” label will be removed.
